Striving to be better

Judge Bob Butts presents a check for $4,500 for the Cheboygan Rotary STRIVE program to Rotary President Brian Wachter (right). Bud Darnell (left) is the Cheboygan club’s chairman for the program targeting at risk students in Cheboygan. The STRIVE mentoring program has been instrumental in increasing student grade point averages and preparing local seniors for the transition to college, training and employment. Since 2002 the court has contributed $37,000 to the program through a State of Michigan grant to assist at risk young people in academic improvement and to avoid their involvement with the court system. Ten Cheboygan Area High School students are currently paired with local mentors for this year’s program.

USCGC Mackinaw Visit 10.19.10

On October 19th, the club took a tour of the USCGC Mackinaw which is stationed in Cheboygan.   During the tour we had a chance to hear about the Mighty Mac’s capabilites and see the workings of the only heavy  ice breaker on the Great Lakes.

Below are some pictures of our visit.
